DESCRIPTION:Organizing works: celebrating our Avelo wins and planning what next – hosted by Siembra NC’s Defend and Recruit \nOn January 7th\, we won and loss. \nThanks to the work of tireless organizing around the country – actions\, boycotts\, local resolutions\, and so much more – we have WON. Avelo has announced they will be stopping their work with ICE. \nBut on the same day\, ICE murdered a civilian in Minnesota.  a mother who was lawfully observing the agents\, a constitutionally protected act of community defense. \nWhen we take a step forward\, it can feel like we’re continuously being pulled backward. ICE’s actions and intensity are growing\, and so must our movement. \nAnd as we watch ICE break national laws and constitutional rights\, and witness Trump’s brazen disregard for international law by kidnapping a head of State and threatening others\, we are grounded in our reality: WE are the ones who must hold ICE\, any corporation complicit in their horrific regime\, and our political representatives accountable. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an introductory Indivisible event safety training that covers how to help keep yourself and others safe at protests\, rallies\, and other Indivisible actions. Indivisibles are increasingly hosting more and greater diversity of events: rallies\, marches\, and other visibility actions. We need organizers\, leaders\, and safety staff for these actions\, creating the need to onboard and train more volunteers so we can magnify our impact. \nThis training is intended to build awareness of safety roles among our volunteer base\, equip volunteers to feel more confident apprenticing at events and taking on safety roles\, and provide a refresher to existing safety personnel of some of the guidance you may have seen before. \nThis 101 training repeats. It is the same training each time. We’ll cover topics like event hosting\, safety marshal work\, and de-escalation tactics.

There are many roles behind the scenes and a lot of footwork involved\, especially for those of us not currently connected within our community. Having strong community connections and support is essential for all of us to endure and prevail against authoritarianism! Every community is different\, but this training will give you basic guidelines to follow and safety tips. We will cover the early steps and how to structure a rapid response team in the event of an ICE encounter. This training will be useful even if you have already started organizing! \nThis training will be entirely virtual and open to the public.
